I went out yesterday evening and it was bitterly cold on my way out, but on my way back home several hours later, I noticed it had warmed up quite considerably.
Waking up this morning, I discovered why. We have more than 3" snow which has fallen overnight.
I never see outside until I literally step out of the door, so it was a bit of a surprise. But everywhere looked beautiful. Mr S joined me, as Foggy didn't fancy a walk with him. We came across another couple out enjoying the scenery. The husband had been trying to get to Winchester, but the M3 has been shut. So he got home, woke up his wife and they were both out with cups of coffee, walking along enjoying it all.
How quiet it was out there. We couldn't even hear the waves and it was really odd to see snow on the beach!
The snow was so deep that we had to walk in the road along the tyre tracks made by the police car who had just driven past. When I had to keep to the paths, the snow was so deep, it was invading my walking boots and freezing my ankles (they're bright red since getting home).
It took 55 minutes to do what I normally would have done in 25.
Now I'm wondering whether my boss will let me stay home, or expect me to drive in this morning. It's still snowing now and I think they're forecasting more snow later today.
A lovely walk - but be careful out there everyone. No grit lorries have been out and there is a layer of ice underneath the snow.
