Day 56 - 12 November 2010

I was so pleased to see that it wasn't raining although it was still pretty windy with an overall wind speed of 37mph.

I popped Radio 4's "News Quiz" onto my iPod and headed out. The direction of the wind told me to head out west, but to take an early eastward turn so that I could have the wind pushing me home. I had also realised that I was wearing far too much clothing...I had thought it was going to be really cold, but it's pleasantly mild out there. I regretted wearing my sleeveless padded jacket over my fleece, but as it lacked arms, I couldn't discard it and wear around my waist.

The surf was still white and what the surfers call "messy" and with several days of high winds, the sand is blowing up to the cliff top roads and nestling in the gutters.

I was able to notice that the birds appear to congregate in trees next to the lamp posts and were singing false dawn choruses, bless them. Mind you, they weren't too far off the real thing. I kept an eye on the clouds and all the time I was heading west and hoped I would be rewarded with a fairly clear sky when I turned out onto the sea road and faced east. Sandi Toksvig was wrapping up the News Quiz by now, so I had to wrestle with my clothes to find my iPod so that I could select The Sound Mitchell & Webb. Classic.

I was nearing home at just past 6am, so it was still a bit early to really see the east sky brightening, but I could detect the very early signs of dawn and every now again, when the clouds passed by, I could see Saturn.

The tail winds were so strong that I got home 9 minutes earlier than planned, so I had to do an extra leg to get my full 60 minutes in.
