Day 133 - 07 March 2011

Monday
3 miles running. 2 miles walking

I knew it was going to be cold this morning, so I was fully prepared with four layers of tops on, two jogging tights, scarf and gloves. Listening to Chris Moyles' Podcasts, I stepped out into -3 degrees with a northerly 3 mph wind.

There was no gusty wind this morning, so even though it was really cold with frost on the cars, I warmed up pretty quickly. Gloves were soon taken off and stuffed into my pockets.

My knees were hurting from Saturday's long walk of 19.2 miles and I wasn't sure whether I was able to run this morning, as planned. I had prepared myself to feel pretty stiff this morning though.

What I wasn't prepared for however, was how light the sky was already becoming. I followed the coastal path this morning, but even when I turned north, I could make out a definite lightening of the black sky. And strangely enough, with the lightening sky, came far more vehicles on the road. I wonder why? It felt as though it was much later and I kept having to check my watch that I hadn't overslept.

I was relieved to see Mr Early along the usual route of the Longest Road and he was well wrapped up with a balaclava keeping him warm. I still wonder where he starts off from and one day I will have to stop him and ask him.

 Can you see Venus?

I headed briskly up Nemesis Hill and soon it was time for me to start running. As I turned the corner, I literally bumped into Dave, our 74 year old paper boy who greeted me with his usual cheery hello and how are you. He's one of the most positive people I know. Amazing man. His dog, called Todd, is 11 years old, is blind and has diabetes, poor thing.

I turned south and headed towards the sea, and the sky was really becoming so much brighter. Not a cloud in the sky, with just Venus to welcome in the dawn. The colours of the sky over the sea was absolutely beautiful. You had the dark blue of the sea and as your eye moved upwards, you could see dark purple, dark orange and then a spectrum of blue until over into the eastern sky, the brightest blue. The photo's I took don't do it justice.

The colours were magnificent

Well it's Monday. I wished it wasn't, but after seeing such a beautiful sky, it was a pretty good start to my week.
